Job Description

Are you an experienced Hand Therapist ready to take the next step into leadership?

We’re seeking a Lead Hand Therapist to join our Lower Hutt clinic, providing clinical leadership to a small team of Hand Therapists whilst remaining hands-on with your own caseload. This is an exciting opportunity to move into a leadership pathway without stepping away from hands-on clinical work.

About Habit Health

At Habit Health, our purpose is simple – we support people in their communities to optimise health and live their best lives. As one of Aotearoa’s leading integrated healthcare providers, we deliver high-quality rehabilitation and wellbeing services that help people recover, reconnect, and return to meaningful activities. We’re proud of our strong local team culture across the Wellington region, and Lower Hutt offers the perfect blend of community feel and access to the wider capital.

About the role

As our Lead Hand Therapist in Lower Hutt, you’ll play a key role in both clinical excellence and team leadership. You’ll work closely with a small team of clinicians, providing guidance, mentoring, and day-to-day support, while also managing your own caseload.

This role is an ideal opportunity for a senior Hand Therapist who enjoys coaching others, driving best practice, and contributing to service development.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership and support to a small team of Hand Therapists
  • Mentor and develop Associate and junior clinicians
  • Deliver high-quality, evidence-based upper limb assessment and treatment
  • Manage your own clinical caseload effectively
  • Build strong relationships with referrers, patients, and funders, including ACC
  • Contribute to service development and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support a collaborative, positive team environment

What we offer

  • Competitive salary and bonus scheme aligned with your experience and leadership responsibilities
  • Annual professional development budget to support your growth
  • Payment of APC, registration, and professional membership fees
  • Access to pool vehicles for work-related travel
  • A supportive, social team culture with regular events and recognition programmes
  • Wellbeing initiatives, including annual eye exams, flu vaccinations, and EAP access
  • Free access to Wellington-based gyms
  • innovative AI tools to support your success

About you

  • Registered member of Hand Therapy New Zealand
  • Proven experience in Hand Therapy, with confidence in managing a varied caseload
  • A passion for mentoring and supporting other clinicians
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • A proactive, positive approach to leadership and teamwork
